A community health fair is coming to St. Croix on Saturday, October 3, with free medical screenings and wellness services available to all residents.

Organizer Jahnaya Christopher will run the event from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Caribbean Cinemas parking lot area. The fair will offer blood pressure and glucose testing, STD screening, vital-sign checks and health information at no cost. Admission is free and open to children, young adults, parents and seniors.

Beyond the medical component, the gathering will include food and drink vendors, clothing vendors, live entertainment and a raffle for participants who complete screenings. Christopher designed the event to feel welcoming rather than clinical. "I want people to be excited to attend," she said in a statement. "Creating a fun and welcoming atmosphere is important to me because healthcare does not always have to feel intimidating or stressful."

Christopher sees the fair as part of her commitment to healthcare and community service. She emphasised that meaningful work does not require waiting until later in a career. "I do not believe I have to wait until I have reached the highest point in my career before I start making an impact," she said. "I can start now, and this health fair is one of the ways I am choosing to do that."

Her broader aim is to shift how residents think about their wellbeing. "Sometimes people may not realize the importance of checking their health until a problem becomes serious," Christopher said. "I want to encourage people to become more aware of their bodies and understand that preventive care can make a difference."

Christopher hopes the October event will grow into a larger initiative, with expanded community outreach and connections to services that could enhance residents' quality of life. She also hopes the fair will inspire other young people to begin serving their communities before reaching their professional peak.
