Set It Off retain Summer Jam title with opening win

Defending champions defeat Ice Connection 73-68 in Virgin Gorda basketball league opener.

Set It Off opened their title defence at the 2026 VG Summer Jam Basketball League with a 73-68 victory over Ice Connection on Saturday at A. Jeffrey Caines Arena in Virgin Gorda.

The Tortola team, who won the 2025 championship by defeating the same opponent, controlled the opening match of the season. Demoii A. Dagou led Set It Off with 21 points and 9 rebounds, while Jasin C. Rhymer added 16 points. Shamarr A. George was a defensive force, recording 17 rebounds and 6 blocks despite scoring just 8 points.

Ice Connection, the 2024 champions, were led by Khalid S. Gerard, who scored a game-high 23 points with 7 rebounds. Ahijaa Sweeney was the only other Ice Connection player to reach double figures.

In the B League, Skillful Ballers dominated Just In Time with a 120-22 victory. Zion Phillips led Skillful Ballers with 21 points, supported by five teammates in double figures: Jayde Glasgow (18), Ke'Mori Daway (16), Delanje Bedford (11), Jah-Shamanye Daniel (11), and Kishawn Martin (10). Morry Ollivierre was Just In Time's leading scorer with 8 points.

League play continues Friday and Saturday at the same venue. The People's Leadership Movement leader Mark H. Vanterpool donated $5,000 to support the league.
