Republic Bank (BVI) Limited has supplied food to school pantries at four primary schools across the Territory, backing an effort to improve student concentration and academic performance through better nutrition.
The schools benefiting from the donation are Willard Wheatley Primary School, Francis Lettsome Primary School, Alexandrina Maduro Primary School, and Joyce Samuel Primary School. Alexandrina Maduro is receiving support for a second year running.
The bank calls the programme "Fueling Young Minds for a Productive Day." It aims to give students access to nutritious meals so they can stay alert during lessons, take part actively in school life, and build positive relationships with classmates.
Marion Blyden, Managing Director of Republic Bank (BVI) Ltd, said the bank sees nutrition as key to how children learn and develop socially. "Access to proper nutrition plays a critical role in a student's ability to succeed academically and socially," Blyden said in a statement.
The donation extends a programme that began the previous academic year, when the bank supported pantries at Enis Adams Primary School and Alexandrina Maduro Primary School. Republic Bank said it is now expanding the initiative to reach more schools.
The bank described itself as a responsible corporate citizen committed to investing in young people and supporting community-strengthening efforts across the Virgin Islands.
