Mark Vanterpool, leader of the People's Leadership Movement, has committed to building multi-level parking in Road Town if his party forms the next government.
Speaking on the People's Mic Podcast on Sunday, Vanterpool said the capital needs to move towards parking facilities that combine commercial space with vehicle storage. "We need to move in that direction and hopefully we can create some multi-level parking that are aesthetically beautiful, functional with a mix of parking and businesses, and hopefully that can happen soon. And it will happen under a PLM government," he said.
Vanterpool, a former Communications and Works Minister and Fourth District Representative, pointed to parking improvements he oversaw during his tenure, including facilities by Bobby's and near the hospital. He said his party had already made proposals for multi-level parking in Road Town.
The commitment echoes an earlier proposal from the Virgin Islands Party during the 2019 election campaign, when that party also pledged to pursue high-rise parking facilities in the capital.
