The MHV BVI Group has awarded $100,000 in scholarships to 22 students territory-wide through a fund bearing the name of co-founder Judith E. Vanterpool, who has spent over five decades in Caribbean education.
The commitment began with a $50,000 pledge in April 2026 and expanded in the months that followed as the company group moved to broaden its reach. Chairman Mark Vanterpool had originally framed a university scholarship initiative centred on Virgin Gorda; the enlarged effort now encompasses recipients from across the islands.
Following an application deadline of July 31, 2026, the group confirmed this week that 22 applicants had succeeded and will receive notification letters shortly. The funds will be disbursed to winners over a two-year period.
Both Mark Vanterpool and Judith Vanterpool hold teaching credentials. The scholarship recognises Judith Vanterpool's long record in the territory's education sector at multiple levels.
"Beyond the financial impact, we want successful applicants to take this investment as a sign that someone believes strongly in what they can achieve," Judith Vanterpool said. "We hope to see these scholars return and contribute to building a stronger Virgin Islands."
The programme targets eligible residents pursuing higher education and typically requires recipients to furnish official transcripts and keep their academic performance at satisfactory levels throughout their studies.
Over two decades, the MHV BVI Group has supported numerous students who later returned to serve the community. The organisation also operates a summer employment and training scheme for young people in the territory.
