A man was killed in a police shooting in Clarendon, Jamaica on October 3, 2026, marking another fatal encounter between law enforcement and a civilian in the island nation.
The incident occurred on the Four Paths main road at around noon. Police said the man was armed and fired at officers as they approached to search him. He was shot and rushed to May Pen Hospital, where he died that afternoon. A firearm was recovered from the scene.
The victim has not been identified. The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is now examining the circumstances of the shooting.
This death follows two other fatal police shootings within days. On September 22, a man was shot dead by police in Balaclava, St Elizabeth, prompting protesters to storm parts of the town and the toll plaza on Speculation Road demanding justice. On September 18, another man was killed during a joint police-military operation in Seaford Town, Westmoreland, with residents disputing the police account of what happened.
According to reports, more than 220 people have been killed by security forces in Jamaica as of October 2026. The recent cluster of shootings has intensified public concern about police conduct and the need for fair, transparent investigations into each incident.
