An 18th birthday celebration at Carolyn Crayton Park in Georgia turned violent early Sunday when a confrontation between two separate groups escalated into gunfire, injuring a dozen teenagers.

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene near the skatepark around 12:06 a.m. in response to reports of shooting. Investigators determined that partygoers and another gathering across the street had exchanged words before the situation deteriorated. Both sides produced firearms and began shooting at each other.

The 12 injured ranged from 17 to 19 years old. The breakdown included five 17-year-old males, four 18-year-old males, two 18-year-old females, and one 19-year-old male who arrived for treatment Sunday afternoon. A 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old boy faced critical but stable conditions. The remaining 10 victims were listed in stable condition.

By the time deputies arrived, injured people were already receiving care at a nearby hospital, having been driven there in private vehicles. The hospital grounds became congested as multiple cars brought victims alongside family members and friends. Staff secured the emergency room area in response to the surge.

Authorities impounded seven vehicles for forensic analysis, four that had transported wounded individuals and three left at the park. Investigators interviewed 10 witnesses at the Criminal Investigation Division.

Bibb County Sheriff David Davis characterized the incident as "a horrific situation in our community," adding that investigators were "working tirelessly."
