Days after concluding a financial services mission to India, Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. Natalio Wheatley is embarking on a diplomatic tour of Bermuda and the United Kingdom, the Government Information Service announced.
From September 8 to 10, Dr. Wheatley will participate in the Annual Caribbean Overseas Territories Caucus in Bermuda, which Bermuda Premier E. David Burt will lead. Following that engagement, he will spend September 10 to 12 in the United Kingdom conducting bilateral discussions with the minister overseeing Overseas Territories.
The travel comes shortly after Dr. Wheatley returned from leading a joint public-private delegation to India between August 24 and 31. That inaugural financial services trade mission took the group to New Delhi, GIFT City, Mumbai and Bengaluru with the goal of generating business opportunities and strengthening the territory's footprint in India's financial sector.
During his absence, Deputy Premier Julian Fraser will step in to handle the premier's responsibilities and ministerial duties from September 7 to 13. His acting portfolio covers finance; tourism, culture and sustainable development; and financial services, economic development and digital transformation. This arrangement aligns with Section 55(1) of the Virgin Islands Constitution Order, 2007, which mandates that the Deputy Premier assume the premier's functions when the premier is away from the territory for longer than 48 hours.
