Forecasters are monitoring a pair of tropical waves moving across the Atlantic, with the closer of the two carrying a medium likelihood of strengthening over the next seven days. That system is expected to arrive at the Lesser Antilles, including Dominica, sometime between late Wednesday and Friday, bringing unsettled conditions featuring heavy rain and strong winds.
People living in areas prone to flooding, landslides or rockfalls have been told to watch for official updates and take precautions as the waves draw near.
Before the rain arrives, Dominica will see drier skies under a high-pressure system, but a mass of Saharan dust is simultaneously moving into the region. Those with asthma or respiratory ailments should be cautious, as the dust may trigger discomfort and health problems.
Heat will also be a concern. Forecasters expect hot, uncomfortable temperatures that could increase heat stress risk. Health officials are urging residents to drink water regularly, limit sun exposure, and rest frequently if they work outside.
Maritime conditions will shift between slight and moderate. Waves along the western shore are predicted to reach about 3 feet, while the eastern coast may see swells up to 5 feet, a detail fisherfolk and boat operators should monitor.
