Zijin Mining Group Co. Ltd, a Chinese state-owned company, reported earnings of US$334 million from its Aurora Gold Mine in Guyana during the first six months of 2026, according to the company's interim financial report released this week.
The mine, operated by Zijin's subsidiary AGM Inc. and located in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), extracted 2.2 tonnes of gold in the period, a 10% increase from 2.0 tonnes in the same half of 2025. The company attributed the jump to high global gold prices, newly acquired assets and operational improvements across its global portfolio.
Zijin's overall gold production rose 44% year-on-year to 27.3 tonnes worldwide, with total revenue climbing 100% to US$3.987 billion in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025.
At the Aurora mine specifically, the company completed 11,000 metres of drilling during the reporting period and operated five underground drilling rigs steadily. Zijin said it reduced costs and improved recovery rates through pit backfilling, waste-rock backfilling, blasting optimisation, gravity separation and carbon fines recovery. The company also brought photovoltaic and power storage systems online, cutting reliance on diesel-generated power.
AGM is currently Guyana's only large-scale gold operator. Zijin acquired the mine from Canadian-owned AGM in August 2020 for US$238 million. The operation holds estimated reserves of close to 184 tonnes of gold, or approximately six million ounces.
