Vehicle owners in Johnson Ghut, Tortola, have been ordered to remove more than a dozen abandoned and derelict cars from Crown Land within ten days of a notice issued on 12 October, or risk legal consequences.

The Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change said the accumulation poses environmental and public health risks, including potential pest problems and environmental damage. Those who fail to comply within the courtesy period face enforcement action under the Crown Lands Management Act, 2024, which allows for administrative penalties.

Permanent Secretary Dr. Ronald Berkeley stressed that residents should report abandoned vehicles, illegal dumping and other harmful activities in their neighbourhoods. "If you see something, say something! Public cooperation is essential to identifying problem areas and maintaining clean, safe and healthy communities throughout the Territory," he said.

The ministry reminded property owners that Crown Land and other public spaces cannot legally be used to store or dump derelict vehicles, vehicle parts, household waste or debris. Clearing the site is expected to eliminate environmental dangers, reduce pest problems and improve the area's condition.

Anyone with information about abandoned vehicles or environmental concerns can contact the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change at (284) 468-2147 or [email protected].
