Ereia Smith of the British Virgin Islands has completed certification as a World Athletics Technical Manager, a professional milestone for the Territory's athletics sector.
Smith brings experience from officiating duties at the CARIFTA Games, one of the Caribbean's leading junior athletics competitions. Her new credential qualifies her to manage technical operations at national, regional and international track and field events.
World Athletics runs a Technical Officials Education and Certification System to raise the standard of officiating and prepare officials for major competitions. Technical officials oversee compliance with rules and standards, ensuring competitions run fairly and consistently.
Smith's achievement arrives as the British Virgin Islands expands its footprint in regional athletics. At the 53rd CARIFTA Games held in Grenada in April 2026, Team BVI won a silver medal in the Under-20 girls' high jump and recorded other strong performances and new national records.
The certification strengthens the pool of technical expertise within Virgin Islands athletics and reflects the Territory's commitment to developing officials alongside its athletes and coaches.
