The Environmental Health Division has issued a public warning about a contaminated spice product circulating in North American markets, urging residents and food businesses to check their supplies.

The product in question is Lior Gourmet Spices Cinnamon Ground Seasoning, sold in transparent 90-gram plastic containers. Regulatory testing by US authorities identified elevated lead levels in the seasoning, prompting Galil Importing Corp. of Hauppauge, New York to initiate the recall through the Food and Drug Administration.

The affected containers carry UPC 794711005484 and Lot Code GAP11304. Distribution took place across the United States from mid-November 2025 through early September 2026, with the product reaching Florida, New York and New Jersey.

Anyone who has obtained this cinnamon should not use it for any purpose. The Division advises consumers to either discard the product or return it to the seller. Food retailers, wholesalers and restaurant operators are being asked to verify their stock and sourcing records to determine whether they received shipments of the recalled item.

Lead poses significant health dangers, especially with prolonged exposure. Children and pregnant women face particular risk from its effects, health officials noted.

While the Environmental Health Division has not yet detected the recalled seasoning within the British Virgin Islands, the advisory is being distributed as a safeguard. The territory's heavy reliance on imported foodstuffs makes such precautions necessary.

For questions or to report sightings of the product, the Environmental Health Division can be reached at 284-468-5110 or [email protected].
