Voters in the US Virgin Islands turned out in significant numbers Friday as early voting began for the 2026 general election, with the Elections System of the Virgin Islands recording 1,145 ballots cast on the opening day.
St. Croix led the three islands with 618 voters participating, while St. Thomas saw 519 cast ballots and St. John recorded eight. Supervisor of Elections Caroline F. Fawkes expressed satisfaction with the response, and the Elections System characterised the participation as evidence of voters' dedication to democracy and their willingness to exercise their franchise.
Early voting runs through Saturday, October 31. On St. Croix and St. Thomas, polling takes place daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., including weekends. St. John voters have a narrower window: October 23 through October 31, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., also on weekends. Residents of the St. Thomas-St. John District may vote at either Elections System office serving that district.
Voting is available at three locations: the St. Croix Elections Office at Sunny Isles Shopping Center, Unit 26; the St. Thomas Elections Office at Lockhart Gardens, upstairs from Banco Popular; and on St. John at the Elections Office in The Marketplace, Suite II, third floor.
Voters seeking mail-in ballots must apply by Tuesday, October 20, to allow delivery time through the United States Postal Service. The Elections System offers absentee voting for those unable to participate during the early voting period or on General Election Day, Tuesday, November 3. Applications are accessible via the Elections System website and at its offices. Voters may request either emailed or in-person absentee ballots until 5 p.m. on November 3.
For assistance, voters may call the Office of the Supervisor of Elections at 340-773-1021 on St. Croix or 340-774-3107 on St. Thomas.
